I bought a 1985 cabby. When we got it, someone had run a big wire from the fuse box to the wiring harness by the back seat kick and spliced in to the fuel pump wire. Not liking mickey mouse stuff I've decided to try and fix it.I checked the fuel pump wire, it has continuity from the pump to the fuse box plug. The relay has power to two legs but does nothing when the key is turned on. The fuse (#5) doesn't have power to either side. This seems to be the only electrical problem . Does anyone have any suggestions?

/Kristine

The fuel pump relay is probably toast.

Yes there is power to the relay. The relay doesn't seem to close.

the relay should have power all the time ...fuse #5 should supply power to the relay coil and the relay is then in turn actuated by a ground signal from the ECU when the ignition is turned on and the car is running

In the fuel pump relay socket, bridge 2/30 to 3/87, Fuse S5 should then have power, punps should run.

2/30 is full time battery power.
3/87 is the relay output to S%, then to the pumps.
The relay gets key on switched power on 4/15.
Ground is on 1/31.
The relay also needs a tach signal from the coil primary, this is on 5/1.

I jumpered i and it worked. So any idea what the problem could be?
