thinking of rebuilding the engine in my dad's 72 bug. it has a stock 1600cc DP engine. i just want to rebuild the engine to stock spec. can anyone tell me where is the best place to get quality parts at the right price
i see a lot of different brands of rebuild kits, bearing sets, bushings, heads etc but i do not know which brand is good quality. i see cip1 in vancouver has many choices - some of their parts are OE quality and some are made in mexico/brazil. i also see airspeed and bow-wow carry many parts as well, but not a whole lot of choices compare to cip1. it seems like cip1 is the place to go. any other suggestions? thanks |

We did a stock engine build-up with parts from cip. I was not at all happy with the quality of the so-called oem quality parts we got. Also, when we called their tech line to ask why the parts didn't seem to fit together, the guy we spoke to was very rude. I've had very good luck buying from Bowwow, as their salespeople seem like they use the parts they sell, and know what they are talking about. P.S. Especially avoid "new oem quality" Bruck cylinder heads, they're garbage. |

Bowwow, airspeedparts.com and aircooled.net.
My expierince with Cip is that you have to order very carefully. Cip has SOME top quality parts, but the majority of their stuff is low grade.

I have had okay service from Cip1 in the past but am having a change of heart now. It only recently dawned upon me that items purchased with a charge card are charged in US dollars. Canadians pay $2.50 more per $100 of purchases as there is a 2.5% conversion fee charged by the credit card companies for purchases done in a foreign currency. Cip1 is a Canadian company that's operating on Canadian soil and yet Canadians are required to pay in US dollars and with the 2.5% conversion fee added on we are actually paying more than what US buyers pay. I consider that a bad deal. So its now BowWow and AirSpeed for me. |

The best advice anyone can give you... and don't exclude CIP when comparing, despite the US dollar conversion. _________________ '73 Vert |
