Hi all you VW fanatics!
I have a '73 bug, but it has the 1971 AE 1600cc engine in it. My question is this: when I accelerate from idle, there's a slight hesitation. I usually have to rev the motor a bit on a hill or slight incline, otherwise, it looses rpms and stalls. I've done all the tuneup requirements such as new plugs, points, etc. I've also just replaced the coil, spark plug wires, fuel filter (about 2 months ago), rotor, cap, etc. I am running the 009 distributor. After the new plugs, it seems to be better, but I can't gun it off the line like I used to. It just wants to hesitate and stall. Is there any vacuum plugs that may have come off or ??? Otherwise, once I'm going, it's perfect.
I have the other distributor with the vacuum can on it (can't remember the part #), but when I tried to install it, the bottom of it doesn't mesh properly in the shaft... it's way off in terms of where the can should be... like 60 degrees off...

009's do not play well with the stock carb. This is a very common complaint. The stock distributor will be better.
The distributor drive should have the drive slot perpendicular to the case parting line and the slot biased towards the pulley. Make sure the engine is at TDC with both rocker arms loose for #1 cylinder.
Only type 3 engines have the distributor drive 60 degrees offset. _________________ Oh, was this your thunder? Yoink!
