well now that i have the vw dune buggy the questions to the pros, start, is there anyway to tell what year the chasis ism the person i bought the vw dune buggy from bought it three years ago and it came with a 1974 motor and trans so he thinks the chasis and pans are also 1974 but not sure can any help me with this will it make a difference to ordering new parts. Will send pictures when we get back home in a few weeks, if the pictures will help, Thanks for your time

Is the serial number still stamped on the pan? If so, check the third digit of the serial number. This is the year digit. If it's a 74 it should say 114XXXXXXX........

thank you for the reply i was told he put new pans on it a few years ago when he started to rebuild it, would that make a difference. Here is a picture of teh buggy, need lots of work, from total mechanical to some fiberglass spider cracks and speaker hols and such, but going to be fun.

No, it wouldn't make a difference. The number is stamped on the top center of the tunnel, towards the rear, right where it starts to flare out to attactch to the frame horns. Should be rright behind the seats in your buggy.

once i had the buggy stripped to the pan i did find the number as you said on the tunnel and the 3rd numer is a 4 so the seller was right it is a 1974 chasis, thansk for the help
