Since it's now camping season, and the spring camping trip didn't seem to materialize, I thought I'd give this a go.

Who would be up for a camping trip to French or China Beach on an upcoming weekend? I've sent a note off to Parks to see about the availability of the group site at French.

If that's not available, we could just see about getting regular spots. I don't work Fridays, so I could go out early.

Alternatively, there are some nice camping spots out past Port Renfrew (Fairly Lake, Lizard Lake, San Juan River), but I'm not sure how many people would be interested in taking their cars out on the (well maintained) logging road.

Activities could include a day hike along a section of the Juan de Fuca Trail, and/or a group cruise to Renfrew/Botanical Beach.

Thoughts?
Marie

The group site at French Beach is fully reserved until sometime in September, so we're looking at just regular spots.

French Beach has more spots reservable than China Beach. China, however, is not as busy, so would definitely be easier to get into without reservations. I don't work on Fridays, so I could go out on Friday morning and secure/pay for as many spots as we need.

Unfortunately, Drew and I are already booked for the August long weekend (it's aviation fly-in season), so if anyone wants to go that weekend, someone else will have to organize it.

But what about either of the two weekends prior... the nights of July 21/22 or July 28/29?

Another choice option is the campgrounds up @ the Potholes in Sooke.
The sites are new & very well maintained with great spots for swimming, drinking, sunning, drinking, trails, drinking, etc. Smile

Sooke Potholes

If anybody experienced any "mechanical difficulties" in the area, I have the shop available for use.

They're really nice sites too. We've always enjoyed going out there, it's just more accessible now and has nicer amenities. We'll spend an entire day there just hanging out. The roads are friendly to the "vertically-challenged" suspensions of many club members.

Great, I'll check that out, too!

Any thoughts on the dates?

Site booking & availability dates here:

calendar

My $.02 vote is for the last weekend of July, would be good right before the end month meeting on Monday.

How about this:

Saturday, July 29... Cruise from town to Jordan River - lunch at Shakey's, maybe a hike at China Beach or something. Or if we want to go a bit further, Port Renfrew, lunch at the hotel or the Lighthouse Pub, and a foray onto Botanical Beach.

Camping that night at Sooke Potholes... everyone book on their own. BBQ, beer, music and good times. We'll have our bikes with us if anyone is interested in a ride along the Goose to Leechtown.

Sunday morning... mass & confession (yeah, uh, just kidding!) Pancake brekkie at the campsite & cruise home.

Thoughts?

This is just a one night itinerary, If there's the interest, we could always do Friday night as well. Or go straight to camping on Saturday, and the cruise to wherever on Sunday.

Thanks for the Sooke Potholes suggestion, Zinkengruven!

Sounds like a plan! I'm about to book one for the 29th, as of now, there are 23 sites available & I expect they will go fast.
For Shakey's, make sure you have cash only if you want to eat there, (ask me how I know...oops!)

Drew and I will also book a campsite for Saturday the 29th. We can have some discussion on whether we go out to JR or PR, and whether it's on Saturday before camping, or Sunday after camping. I'm almost thinking Sunday would be best, as I know some of you work on Saturdays.
