For all you who are interested in going to the edmonton show, it is August 25-27th, this is the weekend right after the Vancouver show.

My theory is to leave go to the Vancouver show just for the sunday, we will fill the vanagon up with people and head over and have a good time, this saves money. Come back to victoria and then leave on the 7am ferry on the 23th and get to edmonton on the 25. Then leave edmonton on the evening of the 27th and stay over night in Calagry and then blast home in hopefully one day.

I Made a map.

That sounds like an awesome trip. Vancouver to Calgary is under a 12 hour drive in a VW van, and another 4 hours to Edmonton from Calgary, meaning that the entire trip either way could be done within a day by two people driving in shifts. Hell, with two people driving in shifts, 36 hours out of Vancouver, you're in Kenora, On. Say you caught the 7am ferry on the 24th instead, have dinner in Calgary, spend the night in Red Deer, and then head for Edmonton around 6:30 the 25th, and be there before 9:00. Just my thought.

Ah yes... looks good on paper, but how often do you have a cruise with a bunch of aircooled VW's where nothing goes wrong. You NEED to allow time for repairs and what not.

I would add an extra day, you never know when you might need to change the motor in the parking lot of some motel....

...I hear that happens sometimes *cough*steve*cough*

As for James and the other over-confident VW drivers... good luck.

Hey, two weeks to almost make it to Ottawa and back minus 4 days of visiting and 3 days stuck in Calgary waiting for parts... Meaning that we could have done it in 8 days if the parts had been shipped out with the transmission and we didn't spend 4 days with the girls out by the lake, even with the transmission swap.

In my defense, the same "change her in the parking lot of the motel" motor did a nearly 4000 mile trip to California and back only three months before the "incident". Also, I drove solo, left friday on the 3pm ferry and was in San Jose by 9pm Saturday...so Edmonton is like a day trip...

I'd say Brad just volunteered to change the next defunct engine at the next event.

I volunteer for the heckling part. Anybody with me? Heckling is better as a group effort.

Oh, and Brad, way to tempt fate. I think you just jinxed yourself. Now nobody with an aircooled motor will want you in thier car until your curse runs its course.

Why don't we all just take a slow trip from The GCVW show all the way to Alberta. A one week trip thingy. I'd say most of us can take that week off like we did for the San Jose show. Wadda ya guys think?

I would love to do something like that..... I guess I have to be extra nice to Peter.

Perhaps the missing work days would be balanced out by the extra cost of another 2 ferry trips if I DID have to work.

Too much to think about right now.

I think Marc has the right idea.
I know enough places around here and the lower mainland.
Also my family has a cabin with a big lawn half way to Edmonton so.......

I like that idea too. I have lots of family in the Okanagan and Kooteneys, so between Kirin and I, there'll be lots of places to stay. It will give us a chance to see a bit of BC and Alberta, rather than driving all night in the dark.

Heres the deal guys.
My family has a big cabin right on shuswap lake. We also have a decent size boat. I could arrange it just for us V-Dub folks.. Could be a lot of fun lounging around fun in the sun...
I like the idea. Kind of a minivacation and see where it leads. There would be some great roads to explore up north!

What's the road like leading up to it? Some of us are ground clearance challenged.

I am liking this idea more and more! Lets hope I can afford it.

Pfff! Ground clearance? Just drive really fast, you can skim right aver all those bumps and pot holes.
