It has begun...

The removal of the stock 1.9 and install of a Subaru EJ22- 2.2L motor into my 85 Westfalia has started.

I've been planning this for a few years but something always seemed to get in the way.
But the time is here and I'm pumped.

Some might argue Volkswagen purity, going with a stronger aftermarket built VW based engine or the TDI conversion... but in the end I really like the EJ22 Subaru motor for reliability and ease not to mention the improvement in power. It's all I will need.

A great power upgrade that compliments an amazing designed camper.

Not sure if I should ask all these questions now or just sit back and enjoy the build and I'll just have to find out along the way. But if you did want to answer anything I have a few below......

-Are you going to run a/c?
-Are you doing the wiring?
-What year motor/ECU ?
-Will your oil pan need to be cut down ?
-Who's adapter plate you going to run ?
-Will you have to do one of those reverse manifolds for the crossover ?
-Header / Exhaust ?

That's it for now Laughing

Hey there Marc.

-No I'm not running A/C or p/s
-I'm having the harness service done from RMW most likely...
-The donor motor and ecu are from a 93 Legacy, 2.2 16v single cam
-Most everything else I'm acquiring from the RMW conversion kit or added on include...
-Adapter plate
-Reverse coolant manifold
-Stainless exhaust
-shortened oil pan
-Diesel hi-torque starter
-Possibly new stainless coolant lines to front

I'm also doing the heater core and blower motor up front.
New pop top canvas up top with new paint for the fiberglass.
New (used, but new to me) Aluminum wheels

More I'm not thinking of but will post as it returns to me.
