Ok, seriously, Marc should probably answer this one as he knows way more about turbocharging than I do.

You shouldda snagged the stack of books off my dashboard while my truck was parked at John's. I had the turbomania book and another book on turbochargers sitting there. I've been planning on turbocharging my truck for sometime. I'm getting closer, I'm just missing some hats for the dels and the oil t-peice. The turbocharger I have is somewhat largish, but I got it for free, so it was worth it. The biggest decision you have to make is blow-through or draw-through. A drawthrough setup is typically a simpler design, but you'll need a compressor with a carbon face seal to prevent oil from being drawn in under any vaccum conditions. It would be best done with a single side-draught carb mounted to the side of the compressor.
A blowthrough design could be more compact an posibly fit under the engine lid of your bug. If you were planning on using a fuel injection system similar to Devin's, you could run a blow-through setup with that, or go with the traditional blow-through dual IDF style carbs with little hats (what I'm gonna do). The only modifications you really need to do to the carbs is get emultion tubes that richen it out under heavy load in the top end.
