Hey guys!

I recently went to Nelson and paid way to much for a rusty old 78 Westy because I want one so bad! The PO said there was a father and son from the island coming a few days later to grab it if I didn't want it. There was no way I was gonna let those two rip off artists claim another victim!
I figured it was rusted beyond repair or at least beyond my expertise for restoring but it ran and and the interior was mint. I drove it down to beetle auto to get an inspection and they confirmed my theory. The front axle is rusted through and it's rolling on borrowed time. The rest if the exterior and frame is also pretty rough so they recommend I get a new body if I can.

So what I'm hoping is that someone on here might know someone looking to part with a good body I could transfer the engine/transmission and interior to.
Or maybe point me in the direction of somewhere I might be able to find one?
I believe the year has to be 1976 to 1979 for it to transfer straight across right? I'm also an electrician if doing some trade interests you.

I really want to use this thing for some camping and surf trips. Hope you can help me out.

Thanks guys

Cam

Looks like your bus is about typical rust wise. I doubt you could find one better for a reasonable price

It's restorable. All the metal panels and cross members are available as is a new front beam. CIP1 and Concept in Calgary have them. Under $1000 to buy all new metal for where you need it. It's worth it because the value of these buses is climbing. A new beam is expensive at close to $1000 but a good used one is hard to find and expensive to ship.

Thanks Jamesd,

Yeah I managed to get a beam from a member on here that was parting out his bus. Still have to put it on but that's coming. I was not to worried about putting some new metal in to fix up the body but I am just worried about the frame/undercarriage being to rusted out to make it worth putting the money into. I think I'm gonna do it though as the bus is running great and since I'm still new to these busses it might be good for me to have one that gives me lots to learn Wink
