1980 Rabbit, starts but then…Dies!

As soon as I let go of the key and it springs back (engine has turned over:)) the engine dies Crying or Very sad

The coil is powered through a resistor when the key is in the "run" position, but is given the full 12v when the key is in the "start" position. The resistor or the wiring for it may be damaged. Try running a hot wire to the terminal 15 of the coil and then starting.

Another possible cause could be a vacuum leak. The cold start injector delivers fuel while cranking the starter. A vacuum leak may prevent the injectors from delivering fuel, so the only fuel would come from the cold start. Check all the hoses and replace any that are suspect.

It worked!
So I ran a hot wire to the coil terminal and it tuned over and ran. for now it runs.
now to fix the problem!
