I accquired an engine a while back that I believe has an aftermarket performance cam, and I was wondering if there was any easy way I could tell what cam it was. Are aftermarket cams usually marked on the oil pump end as to what they are, or do I have to measure the lift at the valve to tell what I've got?

Should be marked on the oil pump end.

Thanks. I'll pull the oil pump out and have a look. I've tried 3 different carb combinations on this engine, and they all have idled poorly, but run great at high rpms.

Yah, could be a cam. Could also be low compression on one or more cylinders. That will cause the symptoms you're describing.
