I drove the van today, it drives fine. I haven't checked the reservoir to see how much water it sucked up after it cooled down but there was not really much smoke/fog stuff comming out the back so I don't think it's to bad. what do you guys think about running something like IronTite in the coolant to seal it all back up and then changing the coolant? it might be a temp fix if it works but I am sure soon enough I will probably have to put the dough in and get some new heads.

That stuff actually does a pretty good job. I used it on a 460 I used to have and it worked for about 3 months before it started leaking again.

i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong but from what I was told the problem is electrolysis. VW in their innfinite wisdom used copper rings for the head gasket thus the aluminum around the ring would prematurely corrode. I was also told that changing coolant yearly was a good idea as the ph of the coolant will change over time. just my 2 cents.

just cirous if anyone has any experience with rebuilds from GoWesty.com? I'll need to do the heads after this seson (I've decided they will last another summer), getting a quote from shops in town ranges from $2000-6000 for $3800usd I can get a nice new rebuild 2.2 engine which sounds pretty reasonable. alternately I was thinking of trying th e reuibld myself, which I'm sure given the time and buying the right tools I could do but I'd be afradi of screwing up. anyhow, does anyone have experience with new engines from them or anyone else for that matter??

Cheers.
